Bass trap density

Have a question about room acoustics?

Bass trap density

I am building bass traps. It seems i can get 8 lb. density mineral wool for cheaper locally than owens corning (which is more in the 2-4 lb. density range). Is there any downside to the denser stuff?

Not at all. The 8 pound will work fine.

great thanks. would the dense stuff also work just as good for a 2" panel, or would it be too reflective of mid-high range?

Using the 8 pound for the early reflection points is fine also.

Sean,

Take a close look around and see if you can get the 6pcf mineral wool for less than the 8pcf - you get better low frequency attenuation with 6pfc - so there is no upside to paying a premium for the 8......

Hey Rod,

Thanks for joining the forum. It is always nice to have someone with your background around.

Just a FYI to all the people out there. Rod has been a supporter of GIK acoustics since the very early days. In fact he was the one one that wrote the following acoustic primer several years ago.

In a lot of ways we owe Rod a HUGE thanks for not only the support but he including our products in his last book.

So Rod when is the next book hitting the stands?? :P
