Rupert Neve is the most well-known name in pro audio, and for good reason. To this day, Neve consoles remain the stuff of legend, and the mic preamp from the Neve 1073 module is arguably the most widely imitated piece of audio gear out there. After the original Neve company was sold, Mr. Neve went on to design outboard gear for his original Focusrite Ltd company, as well as consoles and outboard processors for AMEK, before he eventually moved to Texas and restructured his consultancy into his current company, Rupert Neve Designs.

With plans to convert a conference room into a demo suite, RND contacted studio designer Mark Genfan of Acoustic Spaces for technical consulting and acoustics design – specifically incorporating GIK Acoustics’ treatments.

Tristan Rhodes of Rupert Neve Designs says, “After looking at a custom install, DIY builds and other acoustic panel options, we ended up using GIK panels and traps to make our conference room into a critical listening space because of the combination of affordable pricing, excellent build quality, wide range of options and ability to retrofit the panels at a later date.”

Since the install the sonic difference has been really astounding. The conference room went from an un-usable listening space to a quite good one.”

“Between the Soffits and the two sets of Tri-Traps in the front corners (with additional insulation behind), low frequency performance is vastly improved at listening position. The clouds and Alpha panels have done a terrific job of controlling first reflections and providing some additional bass absorption.”

“After doing some experimenting with the Alpha panels (6A on front wall, 4A on sides) and Standard panels, we ended up preferring the listening experience of the Alphas in the side walls, as with pure absorption the room was sounding too claustrophobic, and the blonde wood really helps to make the room look less sterile.”

“The room is also used for its main purpose of conferences as well as occasional video shoots, and the GIK panels have been a great aid on those fronts as well. Additional panels further back in the room have greatly improved intelligibility in meetings by reducing room reflections and bass buildup. The panels have a professional yet relaxed look with the GOM Baltic fabric. Overall, we are extremely satisfied with the GIK panels and would definitely recommend them for studios and listening rooms.”
